Sigmoidoscopy is a safe, minimally invasive endoscopic procedure used to examine the rectum and sigmoid colon (the lower part of the large intestine). It helps diagnose the cause of rectal bleeding, chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and other lower gastrointestinal disorders. Sigmoidoscopy also allows doctors to collect tissue samples (biopsies) and remove small polyps when necessary.
Our experienced gastroenterologists perform flexible sigmoidoscopy using advanced high-definition endoscopic equipment, providing accurate diagnosis and effective treatment with maximum patient comfort.
A sigmoidoscopy is a diagnostic procedure in which a thin, flexible tube with a camera, called a sigmoidoscope, is gently inserted through the rectum to examine the lining of the rectum and sigmoid colon. The procedure enables your doctor to detect inflammation, ulcers, polyps, tumors, and other abnormalities affecting the lower digestive tract. Unlike a colonoscopy, a sigmoidoscopy examines only the lower portion of the colon and is generally quicker to perform.
